This course is an introduction to the study of world politics. It examines a variety of questions of vital significance to understand different facets in international relations, especially the "big questions" in world politics: Why do countries fight wars? Can nuclear proliferation be curtailed? Does trade help developing countries or harm them? Topics covered include major schools of international relations theory, the development and changes of the nation-state system; international security and intervention, human rights and human security, globalization, terrorism, environmental politics, and transnational institutions; the roles of both state and non-state actors in international politics.
