This course covers the process of historical transformation of the world from the early 20th century to the present. It examines relations among the major powers, the impact of imperialism, the growth of global political economy, and the differing patterns of industrialization, modernization and cultural development throughout the period. The causes and effects of the two World Wars, the dynamics of the Cold War, the rise of terrorism will be emphasized. In addition, we will also probe into issues related to global movements such as gender, class, race and culture.
